Orientation Night Is Thursday, September 3, 2009
Mr._Litwin_6
Greetings from Horace Mann School!

Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year!  I want to offer a warm welcome, bienvenido, zoo siab txais tos, soo dhawaada, as-salaam-alaikum to our returning families and a special greeting to our new families. We are already getting ready for the start of the school year and the arrival of the children. We are busy setting up our newly remodeled office. We are looking forward to seeing everyone in the fall. I hope that the coming year is the best ever for you and your family. We will do everything possible to make that happen.

Our main focus, as always, will be to develop the best readers, writers, mathematicians, and scientists. We will support and enrich students in Physical Education, Technology, Band, Visual Arts, Gifted and Talented, English Language Learning, Literacy Support, and Special Education. We encourage and welcome volunteers. Our school community values respect, integrity, honesty, and generosity. The students, staff, and families make the school a safe and enjoyable place to learn.  We are excited to partner with you in these efforts.

The teaching staff returns August 31 to begin five days of preparation for the opening of school. Teacher training and classroom preparation will ensure our readiness to begin the year. Class lists will be posted at the main entry by noon on Thursday, September 3. Changes may also be possible through the second week of school depending on enrollment in each classroom. Parents will be called if a change is recommended. We respectfully request that you refrain from visiting staff prior to the orientation night as they will be working very hard to prepare their classrooms.

Orientation is scheduled for Thursday, September 3.  It is a great way to lay a foundation for the year! Please mark your calendars and be sure to be a part of the fun that evening.  You’ll be able to meet your child’s teacher, meet the specialists, visit classrooms, and learn about the new and exciting activities planned for the year. You will receive a Family Handbook/Calendar. You will receive additional materials such as field trip permission forms, bus transportation forms, student directory forms, etc. which can be completed and left with us that evening. See you then.

Sincerely,

Jim Litwin, Principal
