Science
Our science program here at Horace Mann School is hands on, it’s minds on, and it’s fun! It’s fun for the students and it’s fun for me. We roll up our sleeves and discover the world around us. My goal is to get kids engaged in exploring concepts in physical science, earth science and life science. If you visit the science lab you may see our students working with properties of water, finding new ways to grow plants, or observing the behavior of crayfish. We want kids to enjoy making scientific discoveries!

Technology
Our computer lab is a wonderful tool and enhances the learning which is happening in each student's classrooms. Projects completed in the computer lab focus on topics students are studying in science and also in their classroom. Students in grades 4-6 research topics and gather information using electronic resources such as internet web sites and on-line encyclopedias. Students then work to create multi-media presentations, slide shows or word processing documents to display their final projects. Working to build keyboarding skills is also part of the curriculum for the intermediate grades. Primary students (grades 1-3) use software programs to write their own "books" about insects, fish, or other topics that they are studying. Students use web sites to find pictures to "copy and paste" in their books. Primary age students also learn how to use drawing and painting programs and begin working with word processing tools and slide shows.
