 | | Ms. Margy Peterson - Vocal Music Teacher | Vocal music is a joy-filled experience at Horace Mann School. Vocal Music is taught in every grade, K-6. In each class, students learn about what makes music: melody, harmony, rhythm & tone color. Students develop vocal skills, making their voice the best musical instrument it can be. Class time is spent learning songs, frequently through movement activities.
Music literacy skills follow as students learn important symbols and practice following scores. Materials used are rhythm and Orff instruments, and the "Making Music" series (Silver Burdett), which is the St. Paul School District adopted curriculum.
Music classes for grades 1-6 meet on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays in the music room. Kindergarteners will sing daily as part of their specialist time (prep). During the school year the students have the opportunity to perform at school and in the community.
