• The Read-a-thon will be from February 1-29, 2008.  Time spent reading books before and after these dates doesn’t count.
• Parents, guardians, grandparents, older siblings and other family members may read aloud to your child.  This time counts toward minutes read.
• For students in 2^nd through 6^th grade, time spent reading one book counts only one time.  Books cannot be re-read and count towards the total.
• The total amount of minutes read must be entered in the “total” box of your child’s Calendar Tally Sheet.
• The total amount of money collected must be entered on “total collected” line of your child’s Pledge Sheet.
• All Calendar Tally Sheets, Pledge Sheets and pledge money must be returned during the week of March 3-7 for students to be eligible for prizes.  PTA volunteers will be at the main door before school each day that week to collect materials.
• Please make checks payable to “Horace Mann PTA”.  Pledges are tax deductible!

Appreciation Prizes

Prizes will be awarded based on minutes read and money raised.  Prizes build as a student achieves a higher level of money raised.

Participation Prize:

• An Old Country Buffet gift certificate for every student who turns in a Calendar Tally Sheet.  There also will be a random drawing for prizes.

Level 1 Prize:

• Reading Makes Us Wild! wallet for every student who raises between $20 and $49.

Level 2 Prize:

• A Reading Makes Us Wild! T-shirt in addition to the wallet for every student who raises $50 or more.  Be sure to indicate your T-shirt size on the pledge sheet.

Level 3 Prize:

• One student from each grade will receive a prize for Most Minutes Read and one student from each grade will receive a prize for Most Dollars Raised.  These prizes – $10 Barnes and Noble gift certificates – will be awarded at the Read-a-thon closing ceremony on Friday, March 14.

Grand Prize:

• Names of the top two readers and top two money makers at each grade level will be entered into a random prize drawing.  The grand prize winner will receive an iPod Shuffle.
