Readathon Reaches Astounding Results 3/14/2008 12:58 PM | | MC, Angela Davis, and a shaved Mr. Litwin show off the amazing student reading total! | Horace Mann School (K-6) celebrated the UNBELIEVABLE success of its 4th Annual Read-a-thon entitled, “Reading Makes Us Wild!" on Friday, March 14th at 9:30 a.m. in the school gymnasium with WCCO Morning Anchor Angela Davis, serving as “Master of Ceremonies.” The celebration will be capped off in a few weeks by the leadership of Wild Principal Brad Bombardir and his First Grade Assistant Principal Colin.
Students have been reading the entire month of February, and collecting pledges for the minutes they read. This year’s goal was to read 400,000 minutes and seek pledges, matching grants, and donations. If they succeeded in reaching the reading goal, Mr. Litwin agreed to shave his beard and be a Wild player for a day while the former Wild player Brad Bombardir is Principal.
Principal Litwin and Ms. Davis awarded prizes to the students who completed their monthly reading calendars and who raised money in pledges. Grand prizes were awarded (at each grade level) to students with the top number of minutes read and largest amount of money raised.
Minutes read: 501,274!
Money raised: $15,695!
The money raised will be put toward the classroom activities and enrichments in art, music, and other activities.
