Announcement from Nutrition Services On May 19th through May 23rd, your school cafeteria will be offering new salads and deli sandwiches as alternatives to the daily Real Choices entree. These right-sized salads and sandwiches will be made fresh in the cafeteria kitchen each day. In addition, a protein-based option (cheese, pasta, legumes) will be offered on the Choice Bar each day. Please encourage your children to join us for lunch and try these new items. Based on the success of this pilot, the new salads and deli sandwiches may become permanent alternative entrees on our fall menu.

Overdue Library Books May 23rd all library materials are due. Please look carefully for any missing books/materials at home. You should see an overdue notice on Friday, May 30 if materials are still missing. Our library has about 25,000 titles and over 2,000 are in use each month. Thanks for your help keeping this great resource in tip-top shape.

Horace Mann Carnival Poster Contest! Horace Mann students are invited to enter a Carnival Poster Contest. Students must complete their own work independently at home and relate the poster to the 2008 carnival theme "Healthy Kids, Healthy World." If you would like to enter the contest, please pick up your poster board and contest rules in the office.  Posters must be completed and returned to the office no later than Monday, May 19th. Entrants will each receive 5 carnival tickets. Winners receive:

• 1st Place --15 carnival tickets and a raffle ticket
• 2nd Place --10 carnival tickets and a raffle ticket.

Spring Carnival planning continues! Thank you to one family who donated a beautiful Amana grill to the school, not just for the carnival, but permanently! This year we are adding a Hawaiian-themed photo booth.  We are looking for Hawaiian-themed items that can be used to decorate the photo area and clothes or accessories that can be worn by the children (and adults) in the pictures.  Please contact Melissa Kestner if you have anything to share!  crawkestner@aol.com or 651-690-0021.  Thank you!
