Great news the Silent Auction raised $ 7,121.53! There are so many people to thank, starting with the students and teachers, who raised over $1,500 with their wonderfully creative art projects; Anne Pavlis, who organized them all; Clare Lubar, Jill Terry and Jim Johnson for donating their computer/internet expertise; Sarah Johnson, Mike & Kristi Pohl, Martha Faust and Amy Kortuem for their help in donations and set-up; Chris Aerts, for running the raffle from start to finish (that income will be reported next week); Susan Lawrenz-Smith and Melissa Kestner for giving us the freedom to do what we wanted to do; Judy Browne for handling all the problems when we weren't there and Danica Linssen for doing just about everything. And a special thanks to all of you who donated so much time, money and effort this year. It was a real treat to work with all of you! Tom Youness

Thank you to the Horace Mann community of parents, faculty, staff, students, and friends for making the Carnival and Silent Auction a fantastic night!  The night would not have been a success without the help of all the volunteers and the generous donations given to support the event.  It was truly a fabulous night made possible by the help of many.  Thank you for making the 57th Annual Spring Carnival a night to remember! I also want to give a special thank you to Danica Linssen for all of her work to make that our Carnival and Silent Auction were a success!

School Board Honors Horace Mann The School Board will honor Horace Mann School, its students, staff, and families at its May 15 meeting. We are being recognized because our students are outperforming similar students in the district and the state in academic testing. The meeting begins at 5:45 p.m. All students, staff, and families are invited to attend. You can also check it out on cable channel 16.

Horace Mann Site Council News

  • There are two open positions for parents on the Site Council for next year. I mistakenly advertised an incorrect process in last week's newsletter. What follows is the correct process.
  •  If you are interested, please send a letter or an email of interest with 250 words or less to jim.litwin@spps.org or to the school office by Wednesday, May 16. The candidates and their letters of interest will be published in next week's Perspectives with a ballot if there are more than two candidates. Ballots will be due Tuesday, May 22 with the winners announced in the May 25 Perspectives.
  • The Site Council will begin next year reviewing and updating the ground rules and by-laws. It was agreed that changes will be made to make visitors welcome. Visit the website to see the minutes for more details.

April Boxtops Counts Here Thank you to all the Mann families for clipping and saving Box Tops in April.  Classroom competition will continue through May so keep those box tops coming.  The top three finishers for April are Ms Muehlenbeck's class with $29.80, Ms Schwartz's room with $21.10 and Ms Dahl's class with $15.30.

Get Ready For Summer! Final RIF Distribution To celebrate the end of the school year and to prepare for a relaxing summer, we will be holding our final RIF distribution next week.  All students will be given a book of their choice next week, May14th through the 18th.   Students will be given the opportunity to choose a book during their regularly scheduled Library times.  This book give-away is made possible by RIF, Reading Is Fundamental, Inc.
