Mrs. Long's Kindergarten Class
Talk to any student in kindergarten and they'll tell you we're always busy learning!

Every day begins with a welcome and our morning meeting when we take attendance. We discuss current events, the calendar and then have a brief time of sharing.  Soon after we jump right into our reading, writing, and speaking portion of the day. Activities include: making words, journaling, poems and making great books. After a short play period, which we call Free Choice, we spend time doing math and solving problems.

It's off to the cafeteria for lunch and later we go outside (most days) for recess.  The afternoon begins with quiet time when the children have an opportunity to stretch out and listen to stories and music. Following another brief Free Choice play time we begin our "Unit Time."  Some examples of our units themes (which vary from year to year) are:  apples, space, friendship, plants, Asian New Year, the body, dinosaurs, etc. After unit time we break for an afternoon snack and milk.  Book Buddies, Reading Rainbow, Music, Cooking, Mystery Reader, Libary are next (changes daily).  Not long after we get ready and close the day with putting coats on and making sure announcements and notes are ready to go home.

Every day is full of great activity, excitement and learning. Arrange a time to visit the school and see for yourself what a great place this is.
