When you look up the word "fun" in the dictionary, there's a good chance you'll find a picture of our class!
At any given time of the day...my students are actively involved in all types of learning and they're having fun. From the time school starts in the morning until the last bell in the afternoon, students are learning, uncovering and discovering, and experiencing countless new skills every day.
Each day starts with taking attendance. A class representative leads everyone in learning states and their capitals. Shortly thereafter the class moves to a "hands-on" exercise in spelling and writing. It's not long and students are engaged in their accelerated reading projects and before you know it the paper and pencils come out and students are solving exciting and challenging math problems.
In addition, students are involved in activities with computers, science, music, physical education, an "at home reading program," art projects, library day, writer's workshop, field trips, special enrichment programs and much more!
A unique opportunity for students is they are introduced to "sign-language," which is used daily.
"Marvelous Me" is a special day in class. Each week a different second grader brings "treasures" from home and describes the importance of each item in their life. It's a great opportunity for the students to talk in front of others and share a bit about themselves and what's important in their lives.
So you see, a lot of learning goes on here and we have fun!
