·         Kickoff to launch Read-a-thon, debut of the Reading Makes Us Wild! Student v. Teacher Hockey Game. Read-a-thon prizes and rules explained.

·         Students bring home Read-a-thon packets.

Friday Feb. 1    

·         Read-a-thon begins!

Mon. Feb. 11

·         Celebrity readers Police Chief Harrington and Fire Chief Butler!

Fri. Feb. 22

·          U of M Student Athletes (Women's Hockey, Crew, Track and Field, and Gymnastics) celebrity readers!

Fri. Feb. 29

·          Angela Davis, Channel 4 (and Horace Mann parent) celebrity reader!

·          Teachers send home read aloud and silent reading time totals.

     Students should add this total to their Calendar Tally Sheets to

     Arrive at a grand total of minutes read during the Read-a-thon.

Thurs., March 13

·         Usborne Book 3:00-7:00 p.m.

March 1-14

·         Read-a-thon ends.

-        Students collect pledge money.  (Checks written to Horace Mann PTA preferred)

Weeks of March 1-14

·         Calendar Tally Sheets, Pledge Sheets and money are due at school.  PTA volunteers will be at the main door before school each morning that week to collect these items.  Items must be returned this week for students to be eligible for prizes. 

Thurs. March 14

·         Read-a-thon Closing Ceremony

-        Grand prize winners announced

-        MN Wild Principal for a Day Announced and Mr. Litwin Goes to Wild for day (if students reach reading goal of 400,000 minutes!).

·         Prizes given to teachers for distribution to students, ice cream treat for lunch, and book fair.
