| The third grade classes will be involved in a weekly homework project this year called, “Alphabet Research.” It is a 26 week long project that requires the children to research information in encyclopedias and other books and present that information orally to the class.
In order to avoid conflicts with library resources, Mrs. Aase’s class will start with the letter “A” and go forward through the alphabet, and Mrs. Spann’s class will begin with “Z” and move back to the beginning of the alphabet. Each week a different topic is assigned, and students are given a slip of paper with 2 or 3 questions. During the week children must find answers to the questions in books at home or at the library. It’s acceptable to help your child with the research. If you are not able to get to a library and you do not have reference materials at home, your child can use our classroom encyclopedias and/or the school library to find the answers.
The topic and question slip are passed out each Friday and are due the following Friday. In addition to answering the question slip, each student is required to turn in a creative project. These projects will be displayed in the room. Examples of projects: graph or map (graph forms and blank outline maps are available from the teachers), newspaper or magazine article, diagrams, pictures, or additional information about the topic; some type of art project such as a puppet, poster, mobile, model, drawing, diorama, or a written activity such as an imaginary story, poem, interview or skit.
The first question slip and project are due on Friday, September 12, 2003.
