Welcome to third grade -- a big step! Take a look below and you'll see some of the unique learning activities that make third grade at Horace Mann a year to remember:

Alphabet Research: Can you guess what the weekly topic will be? Let's see, Aztecs? Butterflies? Caves?...

Cursive:  Third graders' favorite -- now you can write like a grownup and read their notes!

Literature Units: Read from a selection of old and new -- Charlotte's Web, James and the Giant Peach, Mr. Popper's Penguins, Frindl, The Chocolate Touch, and, A Hundred Penny Box.

Social Studies: Learn about immigrant experiences in America, past and present, research your own ancestors, then celebrate our diversity at the third grade Heritage Feast.  Learn more about the history of St. Paul -- follow the fur traders, hear Dakota legends, and make a winter count calendar.  Take a virtual tour of Fort Snelling and trace the growth of our city along the Mississippi.  Create commercials for the Minnesota Department of Tourism and invite your family to our own State Fair!

Field Trips: Visit the Ordway Theater and O'Shaughnessy Auditorium for fine arts performances; spend one day at Belwin Outdoor Learning Laboratory in the St. Croix Valley and another at the Minnesota History Center.

Whether it's "Student of the Week" or "Author of the Week;" earning a multiplication license as a Multiplication Master; or belonging to a book discussion group, third grade at Mann is a great transition year between primary and intermediate -- lots of learning and lots of fun!
