The National Hockey League’s (NHL) Minnesota Wild and Horace Mann School (K-6) have created a "business partnership" with the vision of making a difference in the educational development of school-age children in their local communities.

This partnership was created by 4th Grade Teacher, Amy Kortuem (Horace Mann School), Matt Majka, Executive Vice President (Minnesota Wild) and Pam Wheelock, Executive Vice President (Minnesota Wild).

Each week, members of the Minnesota Wild front office staff, which includes professionals from the finance, marketing, sales & service, and community relations departments, volunteer once per week mentoring Horace Mann School students. Each mentor is matched with a student and works one on one, under the supervision of Mrs. Kortuem, during the thirty minute period. Since 2000, the Wild has taken the time and effort in not only mentoring children from an academic standpoint, but also inspiring children to be great achievers in everything that they do.

In 2004, the Wild received the "Champion for Children Award" from HOSTS Learning. HOSTS Learning is a leading provider of research-based learning systems that accelerate student achievement in reading and math for grades K through 12.

A Great Time Had By All At The Xcel!
4/16/2007 8:48 AM

Horace Mann School students, parents, families, friends, and school staff gathered at the Xcel in downtown sunny St. Paul on Sunday, April 15, 2007 at 1 p.m. to help the Minnesota Wild prepare for game three of the NHL Quarterfinals against the Ducks.

The "Project Manager" for the day was Horace Mann's Mrs. Kortuem; who is responsible for creating this great business partnership!

After a few brief instructions - it was time to get to work and what a great job everyone did! In about an hours time the Horace Mann School "crew" had every seat (that's over 18,000) in the Xcel Center covered with a fan appreciation towel!  What a wonderful "team" effort!

If you missed being a part of the fun had by all on Sunday -- consider joining us on Tuesday, April 17th because we're doing it again.

This project is part of an ongoing "partnership" Horace Mann School has with the Minnesota Wild.  The PTA will receive a nice donation from the Wild for our help!
